SANDRINE PHILIPPE
French designer, Sandrine Philippe, creates womenswear and menswear from her Parisian atelier, where fashion, craftsmanship and artistic experimentation come together. She graduated in Fashion Design from the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, before honing her skills as Creative Director at Popy Moreni and Courrèges during the 1990s and early 2000s.
She launched her eponymous label in 1996, beginning with womenswear and expanding into menswear in 2008. Her studio functions as a creative laboratory, with fabric and texture at the heart of her process. Burning, hand-dyeing, candle waxing, re-embroidery and “deknitting” are among the techniques she uses to create pieces defined by strong construction, meticulous detail and comfort.
Her distinctive aesthetic draws on German Expressionist cinema, creating an underground, nocturnal atmosphere. Inspired by childhood memories of the Brittany coast and an early fascination with her grandmother’s sewing machine, she describes herself not simply as a fashion designer, but as a “universe builder.”
